More HD in Paris, TX

Suddenlink is adding a dozen popular HD channels to the cable TV lineup for its Paris, Texas, cable system.

    Six of those channels — TNT HD (Ch. 740), Fox Sports Southwest HD (750), ESPN2 HD (752), The Learning Channel HD (756), Discovery Channel HD (757) and Animal Planet HD (758) — can be found on the Paris system’s “HD Basic” tier of service, available free to customers who lease the required equipment.

    The other six channels — National Geographic HD (768), Universal HD (769), HGTV HD (775), Food Network HD (776), A&E HD (778) and History HD (779) — can be found on the Paris system’s “HD Plus” tier, available for an additional monthly charge.

These dozen channels expand the existing line up of popular HD channels aready offered by Suddenlink in the Paris area, including four “HD Broadcast” channels, as well as ESPN HD, HD Theater, HDNet, HDNet Movies, HBO HD and Showtime HD.

Scam Reminders

Insight CEO Michael Willner offers some perspective and reminders about Internet scams. Money quote:

Security researchers have discovered that scammers in Eastern Europe made around $10,000 a day via the fake antivirus scam, and that only counted the money affiliates made by redirecting legitimate web traffic from compromised web sites.

Be careful out there.

Suddenlink TV Caller ID Expands

The roll out started in NC last month and has since been extended to Suddenlink customers in West Virginia and Humboldt County, California, who subscribe to both the company’s phone and digital TV services.

Suddenlink is actively working on technological solutions that will help expand this service’s availability to more customers in more areas. Stay tuned.

Broadband: TV, Adoption, Access

Two broadband-related posts were published yesterday at CableTechTalk.

The most recent post discusses some facts and myths about Internet TV — specifically, whether or not ‘Net TV is replacing traditional, multichannel or “linear” TV.

The other post summarizes a white paper produced by the cable industry’s national trade association, NCTA. The paper’s title: “Moving the Needle on Broadband: Stimulus Strategies to Spur Adoption and Extend Access Across America.”

Both posts are worth reading.

Suddenlink Achieves Best Month, New Milestones

In February, Suddenlink enjoyed its strongest month ever for customer gains.

As a result, the company has now surpassed several milestones, including: 150,000 “triple-play” customers (those subscribing to all core services: TV, Internet, and phone); 500,000 digital TV customers; and 200,000 phone customers.

“This success is a tribute to our employees, who work hard every day to provide our customers with a superior experience, making it easy for them to do business with us,” said Chief Operating Officer Tom McMillin.

‘Best of March Madness’ on Suddenlink VOD

Suddenlink digital TV customers with access to the company’s video-on-demand (VOD) service will be able to watch “The Best of March Madness,” a free, high-definition, VOD program produced by CBS Sports and CBS College Sports Network.

Per the CBS/NCAA news release, the program will include “customized highlights of all games from the NCAA Sweet 16® through the Championship Game on Monday, April 6,” as well as “the Official NCAA Tournament Highlight Show from the first and second rounds beginning on Thursday, March 19, and historical NCAA March Madness vignettes.”

San Angelo Fishing Tourney

The Suddenlink San Angelo team sponsored a fishing tournament Saturday that drew 118 participants. Proceeds will support a program administered by the San Angelo Independent School District, educating teachers, students, and parents on best practices for helping young people stay stafe while they’re on the Internet.
