Suddenlink Service Expansions
We’ve written before about Suddenlink VOD. (Scroll down the linked page.)
Suddenlink Security works with Suddenlink’s own phone service as well as others. It offers motion detection and alert systems, covering doors, windows, gun cabinets, liquor cabinets, and swimming pools. The service also offers panic and medical alerts, latchkey-child and senior monitoring, power-failure alerts, and more.
Suddenlink Security includes professional installation, UL-certified and state-licensed 24/7 monitoring. A cell-phone compatible security service is available for those without a landline phone. Homeowners who install Suddenlink Security may qualify for discounts on their homeowner’s insurance.
Prior to the recent, above-noted expansion, Suddenlink Security was available in other North and East Texas markets, including various communities in the suburban Dallas area, Kingwood, Conroe, Lake Conroe, Georgetown, Bryan-College Station and Victoria.
Future expansions of Suddenlink Security, VOD, and other services will be announced as they are confirmed. Stay tuned.

Online TV Viewing: Conflicted Trend
… when looking at the data among online streaming users emerging from Nielsen’s new convergence panel, some interesting – and seemingly contradictory – patterns begin to emerge. During the period tracked — November 2008 through March 2009 — Nielsen found that 30% did cut at least part of their TV cords, shifting a greater share of their viewing to online video. But almost as many — 29% — cut some of their broadband cords too, shifting some share of their online video streaming usage to TV viewing. Forty-one percent experienced no change.

TV Screen Beats Computer Screen
According to Nielsen’s latest Three Screen Report, the average American watched 153 hours of television a month in the first quarter of 2009, a new all-time high, besting the previous quarter’s record. Nielsen also said that almost 99 percent of all video watched in the U.S. is done on a television.

NFL Network News
While we obviously cannot make promises at this point, we remain open to adding the NFL Network to our line up in a manner that is fair to all of our customers — and we will let everyone know if we are able to reach an agreement that allows us to do that.
DTV ‘Soft Test” this Thursday
During Thursday’s soft test, participating stations will stop broadcasting their analog signals for a few minutes at a time. Afterward, these stations will run a “crawl message” at the bottom of the screen, notifying viewers that, if they had a problem during the soft test, they’re not yet ready for the digital transition.
If you are not a Suddenlink customer but live in a Suddenlink-served area — and have not yet made arrangements for the final, permanent switch to digital broadcasting on June 12 — we stand ready to help. Contact us today to learn how.
If you are a Suddenlink customer but don’t yet have all your TV sets hooked up to our service, we’ll gladly connect the rest.
If all your TV sets are connected to Suddenlink, but you still notice picture and/or sound issues during Thursday’s soft test, please let us know. Our engineers will follow up with TV station engineers to address and help resolve issues on a case-by-case basis before June 12.
