Suddenlink Celebrates 10 Years

Today, Suddenlink is celebrating its tenth year in business. Our origins can be traced to Feb. 12, 2003, when our management team assumed responsibility for Classic Communications, a small cable operator serving approximately 300,000 customers in mainly rural communities. The company more than quadrupled in size in 2006, with the acquisitions of Cox cable systems serving approximately 900,000 customers and Charter cable systems serving approximately 240,000 customers.  Around the same time, the name Suddenlink was introduced.

Way back in 2003, Classic offered Internet service (with a top download speed of 1.5 Megabits per second) in only half of its cable systems – and offered phone service in none. A decade later, Suddenlink offers high-speed Internet service in all communities, with download speeds up to 107 Megabits per second in many areas; phone service to substantially all customers; wireless home networking; a robust line up of high-definition TV channels; TV Caller ID; a video on demand library with more than 10,000 titles; an online video service known as Suddenlink2GO; home security; and a suite of commercial services, including advertising and carrier services.

“Through the hard work of our team, an unrelenting focus on customer care, plus transformative acquisitions, billions of dollars in financings and capital investments, we turned a small company into the nation’s seventh largest cable operator with financial and operating results that are among the very best in the industry,” said Kent.

Neosho Gets Faster Internet Speeds, Phone Service

We’ve increased speeds for our Neosho, Mo., Internet services and launched Suddenlink Home Phone in that area. Current Internet customers with download speeds up to 512 Kilobits per second (Kbps) and 3 Megabits per second (Mbps) have been increased up to 3 and 15 Mbps, respectively. The latter is the fastest residential Internet service in the community.

Voice mail and international calls are also available at competitive rates. Phone Service Introduced in Pine, Strawberry

While we have competitive phone service deployed to the overwhelming majority of our service areas, we continue working to expand it to the rest. The latest communities to receive it are Pine and Strawberry, Ariz.

Truckee, Auburn Get Faster Internet, TV Caller ID

In another upgrade, Truckee and Auburn customers can now see who’s phoning them on their TV screens with Suddenlink’s TV Caller ID service. When the phone rings, a banner pops up across the bottom of the TV screen to indicate who’s calling. The feature is free, but for it to work, customers must have a minimum combination of Suddenlink Phone and Digital TV.

These enhancements are part of Project Imagine. Suddenlink will continue to announce launches of new and enhanced services in other communities as they are confirmed.

Phone Milestone

As of March 31, Suddenlink counted more than 300,000 residential phone customers, up nearly 47% in the last year. We began our national rollout of phone service with fewer than 40,000 residential customers in early 2007. Learn more about availability in your area by entering a zip code at suddenlink.com.

Suddenlink Reaches 250,000 Phone Milestone

Suddenlink now counts more than 250,000 active phone lines serving residential and business customers. That’s up from approximately 30,000 lines at the beginning of 2007, before the company expanded phone service to most of its markets.

Suddenlink customers are now placing and receiving up to six million calls a day, about twice as many daily calls as the company’s network handled 14 months ago and six times as many as it did two years ago.

Suddenlink Phone uses IP technology to transport calls over the company’s private, managed, IP-based network. As a standard part of its residential service, Suddenlink offers unlimited local and domestic long-distance calls, plus a set of popular calling features. Suddenlink Phone also provides automatic access to the FCC-mandated Enhanced 911 system and is compatible with most modern alarm monitoring equipment.

Earlier this year, the company launched an enhanced Business Class Phone service for larger commercial accounts with more complex requirements.

Mt. Home Gets Phone

In fact, Suddenlink Phone meets the characteristics outlined by ADT Security Services to be acceptable as a primary method of transmitting alarm signals to ADT’s monitoring centers for that security company’s home and small business customers.

3 Million Calls in One Day

On March 18, Suddenlink’s national network recorded its first day handling more than 3 million phone calls — up a half million per day since Jan. 2.

The company is rapidly approaching 115,000 total phone customers, many of whom have bundled Suddenlink Phone with Suddenlink TV and/or Internet services, resulting in significant savings during these challenging economic times.

Suddenlink Phone uses IP technology to transport calls over the company’s own, private, managed IP-based network, never traversing the public Internet. As a standard part of its service, Suddenlink offers unlimited local and domestic long-distance calls, plus a set of popular calling features. Suddenlink Phone also provides automatic access to the FCC-mandated Enhanced 911 system and is compatible with most modern alarm monitoring equipment.
